Bruinsma leads Detroit to 58-53 win over Wright St
DETROIT -- Evan Bruinsma scored 17 points and Detroit scored seven straight points from the foul line down the stretch to turn back Wright State 58-53 on Saturday.
Wright State (9-8, 1-1 Horizon League) had recovered from a 10-0 surge by Detroit (8-8, 1-0) to tie the game at 51 with 3:21 to play. But from there the Raiders went ice cold with a turnover, three missed shots and three missed free throws. Meanwhile, Detroit got two free throws from Juwan Howard Jr., three from Jarod Williams and two by Anton Wilson to take control.
For the game, the Titans went 20 of 31 to overcome 36.4 percent shooting from the field and 16 turnovers.
A.J. Pacher and Chrishawn Hopkins had 11 points each for Wright State.
The Raiders built a 46-41 lead only to see the Titans reel off 10 points, the first eight by Bruinsma, starting with back-to-back three-point plays.
