Hampton runs past Maryland-Eastern Shore 104-89
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- Du'Vaughn Maxwell scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half, hauled in 11 rebounds and had seven assists, pacing Hampton past Maryland-Eastern Shore 104-89 on Monday night.
The Pirates (16-11, 11-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) shot 50 percent from the field and dominated the rebounding battle, 45-30. Deron Powers had 20 points with five assists, while Jervon Pressley added 12 points and 12 boards.
UMES (4-22, 2-11) was led by Troy Snyder with 23 points and 10 boards. Devon Walker chipped in 19 points and Ishaq Pitt had 15.
Hampton was nursing a one-point lead in the second half, but pulled away with a 17-4 run ignited by a Gregory Hayden 3-pointer and capped with two Maxwell free throws to make it 75-61 with 7:33 remaining. The Shore Hawks couldn't pull closer than eight after that, getting outscored 62-45 in the second half after leading by two at halftime.
