Fenner leads Savannah St. past Howard 56-54
WASHINGTON -- Alante Fenner scored 13 points to pace Savannah State in its 56-54 win over Howard Monday night.
Howard (3-15, 1-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) had two chances to tie or take the lead in the game's waning seconds. James Daniel missed a runner with 6 seconds to play and, after the rebound careened out of bounds off of Savannah State, the Bison had one last chance.
Prince Okoroh got the inbounds pass near the right block but lost the dribble and the Tigers ran out the clock to seal the victory.
Joshua Montgomery finished with 12 points for Savannah State (5-12, 3-0), which made just 15 of 38 (39.5 percent) field goals.
Daniel paced Howard with 17 points, connecting on 4 of 8 3-pointers. Okoroh added 11 points.
The Tigers made 22 of 30 free throws while Howard converted just 11 of 22 from the charity stripe.
