Jackson leads Kent St. past Ohio Northern 84-48
KENT, Ohio -- Junior transfer Derek Jackson scored 17 points to lead Kent State to a dominating 84-48 victory over Ohio Northern Friday night.
After sitting out last year following his transfer from Central Michigan, Jackson showed no signs of rust, hitting 6-of-7 shots and tying for the team lead with four steals. Darren Goodson, one of three returning starters for the Golden Flashes (1-0), pitched in 11 points.
Guard Kris Brewer led the team with 8 rebounds and added four steals.
Kent State used 12-2 and 11-2 runs to open a 41-20 half-time lead.
Ohio Northern, a division III school, struggled mightily against Kent State, turning the ball over 21 times and shooting 29.4 percent (15-51) for the game. No player was able to reach double figures.
Kent State is coming off of its 14th 20-win season in the past 15 years and an appearance in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
