Grand Canyon avoids upset, defeats Vanguard 82-73
PHOENIX -- Demetrius Walker scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as Grand Canyon avoided an upset and defeated NAIA Vanguard 82-73 Tuesday night.
Walker surpasses his previous career-best of 21 points and eight rebounds. Killian Larson added 13 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double this season.
Vanguard held a 10-point lead at the half. A Walker 3-pointer capped a 16-3 run for Grand Canyon (5-3), giving the Antelopes a 44-41 lead. Grand Canyon would stretch the lead to eight with 5:36 to play.
Vanguard had a 6-0 run to get as close as 63-61 with 4:18 remaining before the Antelopes closed on a 19-12 run. Grand Canyon hit 12 of 14 free throws during that stretch, and finished shooting just under 80 percent from the line.
Preston Wynne scored 29 points, including a game-high six 3-pointers to lead three Lions in double figures.
