McCarron, Metro State defeat Canisius 83-69
ELON, N.C. -- Mitch McCarron scored 28 to lead Metro State to an 83-69 victory over Canisius on Tuesday night in the consolation round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
Metro State led by 6 with 13:10 left and went on a 19-4 run to go ahead 63-44 on Mitch McCarron's jumper with 8:24 to go.
In the final eight minutes, Canisius (3-3) never got closer than Billy Baron's 3-pointer with 22 seconds left in the game that cut the deficit to 14 points. Dominique Raney led the Griffins with 17 points.
McCarron was 5 of 6 from 3-point range to conclude the tournament in which he averaged 27.5 points and 9.3 rebounds. Over the four-game run, he was 40 of 55 from the field and 12 of 15 from 3-point range. In the same run, Division II Metro State beat Fairleigh Dickinson, Elon, and Canisius and lost to Rhode Island by 3.
