Tulsa beats Indiana St. 63-62 in a thriller
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- James Woodard hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 8 seconds left to give Tulsa the 63-62 win over Indiana State Wednesday night in the first game of the Great Alaska Shootout.
Woodard scored 20 of his game-high 24 points in the second half. He played only nine minutes in the first half after picking up two fouls.
Dawon Cummings hit a jumper to give Indiana State (3-2) the 57-56 lead with 2:25 left. After forcing a turnover, Jake Odum scored to push the lead to 59-56.
Tulsa (1-4) got a layup from Woodard. Devonte Brown hit two from the line, pushing the lead to 61-58 with 53 seconds left. Woodard scored on the next possession.
Tulsa again fouled Brown, but he only hit 1 of 2. Down 62-60 with 22 seconds left, Woodard hit his shot, giving the Golden Hurricanes their first win.
Brown led the Sycamores with 18 points.
