POCATELLO, Idaho -- A.J. Hess scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Southern Utah to a 71-67 win over Idaho State on Saturday night.

Race Parsons added 14 points for the Thunderbirds (7-16, 4-8 Big Sky Conference). Tyler Rawson had 11 points and James McGee had nine.

Hess sank a 3-pointer to put Southern Utah on top 27-24 with 5:05 left in the first half. The Thunderbirds never trailed after that and had a 37-30 lead at the break.

In the second half, Idaho State came as close as one point, 62-61, with 3:09 to play but the Thunderbirds finished out the final two minutes with a 3-pointer by Parsons, a layup by Rawson and a pair of free throws by Trey Kennedy. In the final 10 seconds, Idaho State's Chris Hansen and Nnamdi Ezenwa both missed from 3-point range.

Hansen led the Bengals (6-10, 3-10) with 21 points.
