Hearst leads Quinnipiac past Yale 89-85 in 2OT
HAMDEN, Conn. -- Zaid Hearst scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Quinnipiac to an 89-85 win over Yale in double overtime Friday night.
Ousmane Drame and Evan Conti added 13 points each with Drame grabbing 15 rebounds as the Bobcats out-rebounded the Bulldogs 54-38 in the season opener. Kasim Chandler and reserve Justin Harris, who hit 5 of 6 shots, each added 12.
Yale was led by Javier Duren with 26 points and Justin Sears with 23 and 12 rebounds.
Drame blocked a Duren shot with 6 seconds left in regulation to send it into overtime. Hearst missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first overtime.
Conti and Drame scored the first two baskets in the second overtime to give the Bobcats a four-point lead they protected by making seven of eight free throws.
The game was part of the Connecticut 6 Classic hosted by Quinnipiac.
