Iona defeats Quinnipiac 81-73
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- David Laury tied his career high with 30 points, Isiah Williams added 22, and Iona defeated Quinnipiac 81-73 on Tuesday night.
Laury shot 8 of 15 from the field including three 3-pointers and added 11 more from the free-throw line. Williams drained four 3-pointers as part of 9 of 11 shooting and added 10 rebounds as Iona (10-5, 3-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic) ripped open a close game after halftime.
The Gaels shot 50 percent in the second half, including 6 of 10 on 3-pointers and were a perfect 13 of 13 at the foul line.
The victory was coach Tim Cluess' 200th collegiate win. A.J. English -- with 13 points -- scored his 1000th career point during the game.
Zaid Hearst led Quinnipiac (6-7, 0-4) with 27 points -- his second game scoring more than 25 points in two games this month. Aryon Hutton added 15 points.
