Iona needs comeback to stop Quinnipiac, 60-57
HAMDEN, Conn. -- David Laury scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Iona pushed its winning streak to eight straight with a 60-57, come-from-behind win over Quinnipiac Sunday.
The victory allowed the first-place Gaels (21-6, 14-2) to maintain their two-game lead on Rider in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings.
The game was tied at 25-25 with 2:06 left in the first half, but Quinnipiac (14-11, 8-8) closed on a 6-1 run to lead 31-26 at intermission and the Bobcats maintained the lead until Laury's layup with 8:48 left gave Iona a 45-44 advantage.
Schadrac Casimir and A.J. English scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, for Iona, which struggled from the field, hitting just 23 of 73 (31.5 percent).
Ousmane Drame scored 16 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead Quinnipiac. Chaise Daniels and Zaid Hearst added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
