Tulsa fends off East Carolina, 66-64
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- James Woodard scored 17 points and added five rebounds to lead Tulsa to a 66-64 victory over East Carolina on Saturday.
After East Carolina's Michel-Ofik Nzege dunk tied the game at 61 with 2:09 to play, the Golden Hurricanes scored five straight points down the stretch, all of which came at the free throw line, to put the game away. The Pirates had two opportunities to tie or take the lead, but B.J. Tyson had a turnover and Terry Whisnant missed from 3-point range.
Shaquille Harrison finished with 13 points, five assists and five rebounds for Tulsa (14-5, 7-0 American Conference), which has won nine straight and 11 of 13 in coach Frank Haith's inaugural campaign.
Whisnant had 22 points to lead the Pirates (8-11, 1-5). Nzege added 13 points and 11 rebounds. East Carolina has now lost five of its last six.
