IUPUI holds off Denver 52-49
INDIANAPOLIS -- Marcellus Barksdale made a pair of go-ahead free throws, D.J. McCall scored on a tip-in with 20 seconds left and IUPUI held off Denver 52-49 on Saturday.
Barksdale finished with 10 points, Khufu Najee added nine and DavRon Williams had seven with seven rebounds and three blocks for the Jaguars (6-11, 2-1 Summit). IUPUI shot 46.3 percent from the field and had 13 second-chance points.
Cam Griffin led Denver (7-10, 1-3) with 15 points and Brett Olson chipped in 13. The Pioneers were held to 13 points on 5-of-22 shooting in the first half, but went 15 of 21 in the second.
Denver opened the second half on an 11-2 run after trailing by nine in the first, and it stayed tightly contested from there.
After McCall's tip-in, Olson sank two free throws with 10 seconds left, and Mason Archie II and Najee each split a pair to hang on.
