Nebraska-Omaha needs 2 overtimes to dispatch IUPUI 87-80
INDIANAPOLIS -- CJ Carter scored 29 points, including six points in double overtime, to help Nebraska-Omaha beat IUPUI 87-80 on Saturday.
Carter hit the first field goal in overtime for either team at the 1:23 mark to tie the game at 73. Later, IUPUI's Marcellus Barksdale airballed a shot in the lane and Omaha called timeout with 1.4 seconds left. Its half-court heave was just off the mark.
In the second overtime, Aaron Brennan gave IUPUI a 78-75 lead with 2:41 left, but the Jaguars wouldn't hit another field goal the rest of the way, getting outscored 12-2.
Tre'Shawn Thurman had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Omaha (11-17, 5-11 Summit).
Devin Patterson hit a contested 3-pointer to give Omaha a 71-69 lead with 3:50 left, but the Mavericks didn't score again in regulation. Josh James made 1 of 2 free throws with 1:10 left and Brennan did the same with 11 seconds remaining to force overtime.
Barksdale led IUPUI (10-20, 6-10) with 18 points.
