Smith scores 19 to help Navy beat American U 64-54

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Worth Smith scored 19 points, Brandon Venturini chipped in 17 and Navy snapped a four-game losing skid with a 64-54 victory over American University on Wednesday night.

Smith was 7 of 10 from the floor. Venturini made 6 of 9 shots, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc and dished out five assists for Navy (8-13, 4-5 Patriot League), which shot 24 of 37 (65 percent) from the floor.

Venturini scored, Smith followed with eight straight points, and Will Kelly dunked, capping Navy's 12-4 surge to take a 49-38 lead with 14:11 to play, and the Midshipmen led the rest of the way.

Kevin Panzer scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor to lead the Eagles (11-10, 4-5), and was the only American U player to reach double figures.
