Xavier rallies past San Diego 82-71
FULLERTON, Calif. -- Matt Stainbrook was in the thick of things, scoring 14 points with nine rebounds and dishing eight assists as Xavier defeated San Diego 82-71 in the Wooden Legacy tournament Thursday.
The Musketeers (5-0) rallied past San Diego (3-2) early and shot 58 percent -- 29 of 50 with 10 3-pointers. Xavier also scored 14 of 21 foul shots to just five for the Toreros.
Trevon Bluiett scored 17 for Xavier.
San Diego led by six early before Stainbrook scored three straight baskets in a 9-0 run as Xavier caught up. Stainbrook also dished to Jalen Reynolds for a dunk and fed Brandon Randolph on a 3-pointer as the Musketeers shot into the lead, 39-31 by halftime.
He was also active during a 9-6 rally after halftime, hitting a jumper and assisting Remy Abell and Bluiett for 3-pointers.
Johnny Dee scored 20 for San Diego.
Xavier plays UTEP Friday; San Diego meets Princeton.
