Santa Clara beats San Francisco 70-64
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Brandon Clark had 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists, Jared Brownridge added 18 points and Santa Clara beat San Francisco 70-64 on Saturday.
Kai Healey's 3-pointer with 8:21 left gave the Broncos (9-10, 3-4 West Coast Conference) their largest lead at 61-41. Santa Clara missed all six of its field goals from there.
USF (8-11, 2-5) rallied within 65-59 on Kruize Pinkins' layup with 1:38 left but would get no closer as SCU made 5 of 6 free throws to close it out.
Denzel Johnson added 11 points including a trio of 3-pointers for the Broncos, who went ahead for good late in the first half at 28-25. It was early in a 21-3 run that stretched Santa Clara's lead to 44-28 with 18:21 left in the second.
Pinkins had 16 points to lead the Dons. Mark Tollefsen added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Devin Watson scored 13.
