AKRON, Ohio -- Isaiah Johnson scored 13 points, Kwan Cheatham Jr. added 10 with seven rebounds and five assists, and Akron beat Coppin State 79-62 on Saturday.
Noah Robotham and Antino Jackson scored 10 apiece for the Zips (9-4), who were outrebounded 42-33 but made 11 of 34 shots from beyond the arc.
The lead traded hands five times before Akron's Aaron Jackson made a layup to spark a 9-0 run for a 22-15 lead. Johnson scored a layup and three free throws amid a 13-4 Zips run and Akron led 43-33 at halftime.
Akron used a 10-3 run to pull to a 55-41 second-half lead, but Coppin State cut the lead to 10 after a 7-2 run. Akron finished with an 8-2 run in which Robotham scored a layup and free throw.
Sterling Smith led the Eagles (1-14) with 16, Arnold Fripp had 14, Taariq Cephas had 12 with 10 rebounds, and Christian Kessee 11.
