Balanced Georgetown defeats St. John's 79-57
WASHINGTON -- Isaac Copeland scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds to lead a balanced Georgetown -- in which all five starters reached double figures -- past St. John's 79-57 on Tuesday night.
The Hoyas (17-8, 9-5 Big East) nailed their first seven 3-point shots of the second half, boosting a 10-point halftime lead to 66-50 with 6:42 left to play, ending a St. John's three-game win streak.
Along with the freshman Copeland, Joshua Smith, L.J. Peak and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera all scored 12 and Jabril Trawick added 11 points. Mikael Hopkins scored 12 off the bench.
Phil Greene IV led St. John's (17-9, 6-7) with 18 points and Sir'Dominic Pointer added 16.
The Hoyas owned a 46-31 advantage on the boards en route to their seventh win in the last 10 games.
Georgetown pulled into a 19-19 tie on a basket by Hopkins on its way to a 33-23 halftime lead.
