UT-Martin run tops Northern Kentucky 71-56
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Marshun Newell threw down 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help UT-Martin power past Northern Kentucky 71-56 Wednesday night.
Northern Kentucky held an early lead at 16-14 midway through the first half, but Myles Taylor's layup tied the game and sparked an 18-0 run by the Skyhawks to double-up the Norse at 32-16.
Tayler Persons answered with a jumper and Daniel Camps dunked and added two free throws to allow Northern Kentucky to cut the deficit to 10 at halftime, 32-22.
Newell was 5 of 10 from the field and pulled five of his boards off the offensive glass. Alex Anderson also scored 15 for UT-Martin (4-2), with Deville Smith adding 14 and Twymond Howard 10.
Persons scored 15 points to lead Northern Kentucky (3-4), with Tyler White adding 12 points off the bench and Chad Jackson adding 10 points and grabbing 6 boards.
