USC Upstate rolls to 68-54 victory over Hampton
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Ty Greene scored 26 points to help South Carolina Upstate roll to a 68-54 victory over Hampton on Saturday.
Greene shot 7 of 14 from the floor and made 10 of 11 free throws. Michael Buchanan had a career-high five blocks and finished with seven points, seven rebounds and two assists. Fred Miller chipped in 10 points with five boards, two assists and two steals for the Spartans (11-4).
USC Upstate closed the first half on a 23-12 run to take a 35-22 halftime lead. Greene made a pair of free throws to stretch the Spartans' lead to 47-28 with 12:28 to play. Hampton pulled within 63-54 with 54 seconds left before the Spartans made 5 of 6 free throws to seal it.
Brian Darden scored 14 points, and Dwight Meikle had nine points, three steals and grabbed a career-best 19 rebounds for Hampton (6-8), which outrebounded USC Upstate 40-38.
