Smith scores 29; Lipscomb holds on to beat Stetson 87-85
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Malcolm Smith scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Lipscomb held on to beat Stetson 87-85 on Thursday night.
The Hatters overcame a 13-point deficit with a 15-4 run to pull within 86-84 with 42 seconds left. J.C. Hampton split a pair of free throws to stretch the Bisons lead to 87-84 with 19 seconds left. Divine Myles missed a 3 on the other end with 7 seconds to go, and the Hatters couldn't get off another field goal attempt in the final seconds.
Smith shot 9 of 16 from the field and was 10 of 10 from the line. Josh Williams hit five 3-pointers on his way to 25 points and five assists. Hampton added nine points and five assists, and Brett Wishon dished out another five assists for Lipscomb (11-13, 5-4 Atlantic Sun).
Myles scored 17 points to lead Stetson (8-17, 2-7).
