Mercer upends UNC-Greensboro 76-55
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Ike Nwamu scored 15 points and Darious Moten had 14 to help Mercer beat UNC-Greensboro 76-55 on Saturday.
Nwamu returned to his hometown, having played high school basketball at Westchester Country Day. He was 4 of 10 from the field, with three 3-pointers.
Phillip Leonard, Jibri Bryan and Stephon Jelks had 10 apiece for Mercer (7-8, 2-0 Southern Conference). Leonard had seven of Mercer's 16 assists and Bryan grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bears to a 32-22 advantage on the glass.
Tevon Saddler led UNCG (5-10, 1-1) with 20 points. Kayel Locke had 14 and Diante Baldwin 12. The Spartans made 5 of 11 shots from the free throw line compared to 15 of 20 for Mercer.
Mercer closed the first half on a 10-2 run to take a 33-25 lead. The Bears were 5 of 10 from 3-point range in the first half and finished 11 of 20.
