Wofford holds on to beat Samford 68-65
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Karl Cochran scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds as Wofford held on in the final minutes to beat Samford 68-65 in a Southern Conference opener for both teams on Saturday.
Eric Garcia added 14 points for the Terriers (10-4, 1-0) and Spencer Collins had 10.
Wofford took a 25-24 lead on a 9-2 run to finish the first half after trailing most of the period.
The Terriers stretched their advantage to 10, 41-31, on a jumper by Derrick Brooks with 12:41 to go in the second period and pulled to 55-41 on a 3-pointer by Cochran with 6:26 remaining. Samford closed the gap, coming to within four points, 65-61, on a 13-4 run in the final two minutes but the Terriers held on for the win.
Christen Cunningham led the Bulldogs (7-9, 0-3) with 17 points and three rebounds.
