Hood hits 2 treys late, helps Samford beat Wofford 76-72
CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Tyler Hood hit two 3-pointers in the closing seconds and Samford overcame a 21-point second half deficit to beat Western Carolina 76-72 on Thursday night.
Hood hit his third trey, scoring from the left wing to give the Bulldogs a 71-69 lead with 22 seconds to play. Justin Browning answered, converting a three-point play and the Catamounts led 72-71 with 12 seconds remaining.
Hood pump faked a defender, stepped into the left corner and drilled his fourth 3-pointer with 2 seconds left. Christen Cunningham forced a turnover and made a pair of free throws to end it.
Western Carolina led 57-36 with 10:37 to play, and Samford used a 26-4 run to pull ahead 62-61 with 4:20 left.
Hood and Darius Jones-Gibson scored 18 points apiece for Samford (11-14, 4-8 Southern League), which shot 61.5 percent in the second half.
Mike Brown scored 23 points for Western Carolina (11-13, 6-6).
