Furman hangs on to snap skid with 53-49 win over W. Carolina
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Stephen Croone scored 15 points, including the go-ahead bucket, to lead Furman to a 53-49 win over Western Carolina on Thursday night, snapping a seven-game skid.
Kris Acox contributed 12 points while pulling down 17 rebounds and Geoff Beans added 11 points -- all in the second half -- as Furman (8-20, 5-12 Southern) avenged a Jan. 5 loss to Western Carolina.
Trailing by five at the break, Furman took the lead during a 17-0 run in the second half that included Croone's go-ahead bucket. Western Carolina (13-16, 8-9) closed the game with an 8-2 run.
Neither team shot well. Furman hit 28.3 percent on 46 attempts from the floor while holding Western Carolina to 17 of 66 (25.8 percent). The Paladins enjoyed a 24-14 advantage in made free throws.
Mike Brown led the Catamounts with 14 points and 16 rebounds, while James Sinclair added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
