Coastal Carolina beats SC State 57-43
ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Warren Gillis scored 13 points, Elijah Wilson added 12, and Coastal Carolina beat South Carolina State 57-43 on Sunday in a strong defensive performance to win their fourth straight game.
Tristian Curtis scored 10 points and the Chanticleers (8-2) held the Bulldogs to 30 percent shooting, outrebounded them 43-32, and blocked a season-high six shots.
Greg Mortimer led the Bulldogs (3-7) with 10 points.
The Bulldogs led 3-2 but Coastal Carolina soon took control and Wilson hit a 3 to give the Chanticleers a 28-18 lead. Josh Cameron hit two free throws and Coastal Carolina led 35-22 at halftime, outshooting the Bulldogs 50 percent to 33 percent and outrebounding them 18-11.
Wilson hit his second 3-pointer to put the Chanticleers up 42-27 in the second half and Coastal led by as many as 22. The Chanticleers' pressure defense held the Bulldogs to 2 of 12 field goals in the first 8 minutes.
