Brown, Weary lift High Point past Gardner-Webb 84-72
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- John Brown had 23 points and Adam Weary had 13 of his career-high 23 in the second half to lead High Point to an 84-72 win over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday.
Weary came off the bench to hit 10 of 14 shots and had five rebounds and five assists for the Panthers (13-4, 4-1 Big South).
High Point dominated inside, scoring 52 points in the paint to 26 for the Bulldogs (11-7, 3-2). Gardner-Webb hit 10 3-pointers in 27 attempts but lost for the first time in eight home games. Devante Wallace had 12 points, Haiishen McIntyre 11 and Lorenzo Cugini 10 for High Point, which shot 55.7 percent for the game after a blistering 64.5 second half.
Jarvis Davis and Jerome Hill had 20 points apiece for Gardner-Webb with Hill grabbing 16 rebounds.
With five rebounds, Brown became the eighth player in Big South history with 1,300 points, 500 boards, 100 blocks and 100 steals.
