High Point holds off Campbell in 63-51 win
BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- John Brown scored 21 points and Brian Richardson fueled the go-ahead run to lift High Point to a 63-51 win over Campbell on Saturday.
Brown shot 9 of 13 from the floor and Richardson finished with 12 points as High Point (19-7, 10-4 Big South) shot 40.4 percent from the floor on 52 attempts and a perfect 16 of 16 from the line. The win kept the Panthers in a tie atop the conference.
Trailing by as many as 10 after the break, Campbell (9-18, 3-11) edged into its first lead of the second half during a 6-0 spurt capped by D.J. Mason's free throw to make it 42-40 with 8:39 left but then went cold.
High Point responded with 15 unanswered points -- seven from Richardson alone -- and protected the margin down the stretch.
Curtis Phillips and Troy Harper led Campbell with 12 points apiece.
