Utah State holds on to beat Bakersfield 57-56
LOGAN, Utah -- David Collette scored 18 points and Utah State held on to beat Cal State Bakersfield 57-56 in the World Vision Classic on Thursday night.
Chris Smith added 15 points and Jalen Moore 12 for the Aggies (5-4). Sean Harris made a free throw with six seconds left, which offset a 3 at the buzzer by Tyrell Corbin. Aly Ahmed led the Roadrunners (1-9) with 14 points.
Neither team shot 30 percent in the first half with Utah State leading 20-18 at the break.
Utah State opened the second half with an 11-2 run with Collette sandwiching two baskets around a Moore 3 to make it 31-20.
Utah State had just four free throws in the last five minutes and the Roadrunners made one last push starting with an Ahmed three-point play and Javonte Maynor's 3-pointer at 4:07. Corbin hit a 3 with 25 seconds left to make it 56-53.
