George Washington pulls away, beats VMI 80-60
WASHINGTON -- Kethan Savage scored 18 and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Patricio Garino added 16 points and 10 boards to lead George Washington past Virginia Military Institute 80-60 on Tuesday night.
Kevin Larsen scored 12, Yuta Watanabe had 10 and Joe McDonald pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds for George Washington (10-3).
The Colonials took a 31-26 lead into halftime but opened the second half with a 10-2 run and shot 64 percent (18 of 28) after the intermission to pull away.
VMI made just 21 of 71 (29.6 percent) field goals, including 8 of 36 (22.2 percent) from 3-point range.
George Washington made 19 of 31 free throws compared to 10 of 14 for the Keydets.
Philip Anglade led VMI (5-8) with 12 points and QJ Peterson added 11 despite shooting 3-of-21 overall and 1-of-11 from deep.
