UTEP beats N. Texas 83-60; pulls into 4-way tie for second
EL PASO, Texas -- Vince Hunter dished out five assists and scored 19 points to lead four players in double-figure scoring as UTEP cruised to an 83-60 victory over North Texas on Thursday night.
UTEP (20-9, 12-5) snaps a two-game losing skid, and pulls into a four-way tie for second place in Conference USA heading into the regular season finale against visiting Rice on Saturday.
C.J. Cooper scored 17 points, Cedrick Lang had 13 and Earvin Morris chipped in 11 for the Miners, who shot 59.6 percent from the floor and 50 percent (9 of 18) from long range.
Julian Washburn hit a 3-pointer, capping a 10-2 surge to give UTEP a 26-15 lead midway through the first half, and the Miners led by double digits the rest of the way.
Muhammed Ahmed had 16 points to lead North Texas (14-15, 8-9).
