Marks, Webb spark Boise St past New Mexico, 69-59
ALBEQUERQUE, N.M. -- Boise State's Derrick Marks and James Webb III were almost enough to beat New Mexico by themselves in a 69-59 victory Sunday.
Marks scored 31 and Webb had a career-best 23, including going 7-for-7 on 3-pointers, to overwhelm the Lobos (12-6, 4-2 Mountain West).
Deshawn Delaney had 13 for New Mexico and Jordan Goodman added 10.
The Broncos (12-6, 2-3) went on an 11-2 run to close the game after Goodman had two foul shots to pull New Mexico within 58-57 with 3:16 left.
Nick Duncan hit the game's biggest shot for Boise State, knocking down a 3-pointer to break a 55-55 tie at the 3:38 mark.
Sparked by Webb, the Broncos went 11-for-26 on 3-pointers, while New Mexico was 2-for-14.
Boise State recovered from a 22-14 deficit, but Webb dropped four straight 3-pointers in a 12-6 Broncos' surge that cut the lead to 28-26 late in the first half.
The foul line proved pivotal as Boise State, behind Webb's 10-for-11 effort, went 14-for-19 while the Lobos went 7-for-13.
After trailing 31-30 at halftime, the Broncos opened up the second half with a 14-6 run behind eight points from Marks, going up 44-37 for their biggest lead.
The Lobos clawed back into the game, tying it at 48-48 with a Hugh Greenwood layup midway through the half. It was the first of four ties before the Broncos regained control.
