LIU-Brooklyn staves off Central Connecticut St, 71-66
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Landon Atterberry came off the bench to score 17 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the field to lead LIU-Brooklyn to a 72-62 victory over Central Connecticut State on Thursday night.
Gerrell Martin also scored 17 points and Nura Zanna added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Blackbirds (6-10, 2/3 Northeastern Conference), who shot 45.3 percent from the field and finished with 16 total assists while committing just seven turnovers.
LIU-Brooklyn held a 34-29 lead at halftime, but the Blue Devils opened the second half on a 23-11 stretch to take a seven point lead midway through the period.
The Blackbirds would respond however, battling back with a 21-8 run of their own, capped off by a Martin 3-pointer and a pair of Martin Hermannsson, to grab the lead for good.
Brandon Peel led CCSU (2-16, 0-5) with 20 points.
