Wagner pulls out 87-82 victory over LIU Brooklyn
NEW YORK -- Marcus Burton scored 18 points, Romone Saunders added 17 and both had key roles late leading Wagner to an 87-82 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Saturday.
Burton made two free throws for an 83-80 lead with 1:15 left. LIU closed to within two and Saunders had a shot blocked. But LIU turned the ball over and Saunders was fouled and made two free throws for an 85-82 lead with 21.1 seconds left. LIU missed two 3-pointers and Burton added two more free throws to seal the win for Wagner (4-11, 2-2 Northeast).
LIU (5-10, 1-3), which led 41-36 at halftime, shot a season-high 56 percent but committed 18 turnovers, 12 in the second half.
LIU's Joel Hernandez scored a career-high 18 points with Nura Zanna adding a career-high 17, 15 in the second half, before fouling out with 3:42 left.
