Nicholls knocks off New Orleans 89-79 in OT
NEW ORLEANS -- Sam McBeath drilled two early 3-pointers in overtime to start an 11-4 run and Nicholls beat New Orleans 89-79 on Saturday night to stop a five-game skid.
T.J. Carpenter made 5 of 8 from long range to total a career-high 28 points for Nicholls (8-18, 5-11 Southland Conference). Ja'Dante' Frye, who had eight points in overtime, made 8 of 10 from the floor to finish with 23 and Liam Thomas had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
There were 11 lead changes and Nicholls was up 69-65 with 1:58 left in regulation. Nate Frye, who had 14 of his 16 points in the second half hit a jumper and Kevin Hill had a tip-in with 26 seconds left to tie at 69 and send the game to overtime.
Christavious Gill made 6 of 11 from beyond the arc for a career-best 25 points and Terrance Syon added 15 for New Orleans (9-16, 5-11).
