UC Irvine cruises past UC Riverside 69-55
IRVINE, Calif. -- Jaron Martin scored 16 points, Alex Young added 14 and UC Irvine led the entire way in a 69-55 victory over UC Riverside on Saturday night.
Maron was 4 of 6 from 3-point range, Young added six rebounds, five assists and three steals, and Mamadou Ndiaye scored 10 for the Anteaters (8-8, 1-1 Big West).
Irvine had a 29-17 edge at halftime and led by no fewer than 12 points the rest of the way after opening the second with a 10-0 run to go up 39-17.
The Anteaters also opened the game with 10 straight points and stretched the lead to 29-12 before Riverside (8-8, 1-1) scored five straight to close out the half.
The Highlanders answered Irvine's opening surge with an 8-2 run to get within 12-8 and that was as close as the Highlanders would get.
Taylor Johns and Jaylen Bland led Riverside with 12 points each.
