MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Jeffery Moss scored 23 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Murray State to a 66-57 win over Morehead State in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams Saturday night.
Jarvis Williams and Cameron Payne added 12 points apiece for the Racers (11-4, 1-0). The team hit 51.2 percent from the field overall and 60 percent from the line.
A back-and-forth first period ended with Murray State on top 31-26. The Racers extended their lead in the second to 11, 51-40, on a Moss 3-pointer with 7:12 to play. Morehead State fought back on a 10-2 run capped by a Brent Arrington 3-pointer to pull within three points, 53-50, before losing the momentum in the final four minutes.
Arrington finished with 15 points for the Eagles (5-11, 0-1). Angelo Warner and Karam Mashour had 11 apiece and Billy Reader chipped in seven points and 10 rebounds.
