Sykes, Mays lead Green Bay to 83-63 win over Oakland
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Keifer Sykes and Greg Mays scored 21 points apiece to lead Green Bay to an 83-63 win over Oakland on Saturday in a showdown for the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League tournament.
Sykes had 16 points in the first half when the Phoenix (23-7, 11-5), who made 13 of 14 free throws before the break, opened a 41-31 lead. Green Bay now has a bye until the semifinals of the conference tournament at Valparaiso.
Corey Petros and Kahlil Felder had 17 points each for the Golden Grizzlies (16-15, 11-5), who play in the quarterfinals on Friday. Petros also had 13 rebounds.
Freshman Daeshon Francis hit 6 of 7 shots and all five of his free throws to finish with a career-high 17 points, 13 in the second half for Green Bay, which pulled away by making 17 of 30 shots after intermission. Jordan Fouse added 16 points.
