Valparaiso turns back Wright State in 66-56 win
DAYTON, Ohio -- Vashil Fernandez scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Valparaiso to a 66-56 win over Wright State on Saturday night.
Darien Walker contributed 13 points, while Alec Peters and Tevonn Walker added 11 apiece to help Valparaiso (17-3, 4-1 Horizon League) extend its win streak to four. The Crusaders controlled the boards 46-25 and held a 19-9 edge in made free throws.
Wright State (10-9, 2-3) snagged the lead twice midway through second half and drew to within a point with 6:20 left when Joe Thomasson hit a 3-pointer to make it 46-45. But back-to-back buckets from Walker at the other end ignited a 9-0 run that stretched Valparaiso's lead to double figures with 2:47 left and the Crusaders protected it down the stretch.
Reggie Arceneaux led Wright State with 10 points.
