William & Mary remains atop standings; beats Elon 77-56
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Omar Prewitt scored 19 points, 18 in the first half, and Marcus Thornton added 17 to help William & Mary beat Elon 77-56 on Wednesday to stay atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings.
Prewitt was 6 of 15 from the field, Thornton hit 7 of 15 and the duo combined for five of the Tribe's 10 3-pointers.
William & Mary opened the game with an 11-2 run and led 42-23 by halftime after making 51.7 percent of its shots.
Junior Sean Sheldon had his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for William & Mary (16-8, 10-3).
The Tribe led by double digits the entire second half and went up by as many as 23 after Thornton's 3-pointer with 2:50 left.
Elijah Bryant scored 15 with 10 rebounds, and Austin Hamilton added 13 points for Elon (11-15, 3-10).
