Norfolk State cruises by Division II Virginia-Wise 88-49
NORFOLK, Va. -- Jeffrey Short hit four 3-pointers and finished with 27 points to lead Norfolk State to an 88-49 win over Division II Virginia-Wise on Monday night.
Short was 10 of 16 from the field for his fifth 20-point game of the season for Norfolk State (7-5). RaShid Gaston added 20 points, on 10-of-15 shooting, and had 14 rebounds for his sixth straight double-double. The Spartans held a 46-26 rebounding advantage.
Oliver Thompson hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points for Virginia-Wise. Philip Owens added 12 as the Highland Cavaliers were held to 19 of 58 field goals (32.8 percent) and were 1 of 4 from the free-throw line.
Norfolk State led by just eight points (34-26) at halftime, but Short hit three consecutive 3-pointers, during a 21-5 run, in the first 5 minutes of the second half for a 55-31 lead.
