Bethune-Cookman tops Coppin State, 58-53
BALTIMORE -- Delino Dear scored 14 points and teammates Quintin Brewer and Brandon Stewart each added 13 more as Bethune-Cookman earned its first road win of the season and its first win in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, holding off Coppin State 58-53 on Saturday.
The loss is the 12th straight for Coppin State (1-16, 0-4 MEAC).
The Eagles took the lead, 51-50, on a pair of Dallas Gary free throws with2:31 left, but it was short-lived. Bethune-Cookman grabbed the lead for good seconds later on a layup by Quintin Brewer, who added a jumper with 1:08 left to make it 54-51.
Bethune-Cookman (5-13, 1-3) collected 26 points off 20 Coppin State turnovers and outscored the Eagles in the paint, 26-18. The Wildcats struggled from distance, making just 1 of 11 attempts from 3-point range.
Taariq Cephas led Coppin State with 12 points, but was the only player to reach double figure scoring.
