Maryland-Eastern Shore keeps Florida A&M winless, 72-65
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Michael Myers scored 18 points, 10 from the foul line, and Maryland-Eastern Shore beat winless Florida A&M 72-65 on Monday night.
UMES (12-10, 5-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) built a 39-30 halftime lead and held off a late charge as Florida A&M got within 64-62 with four minutes left. The Hawks closed on an 8-3 run for their first road sweep of the two Florida MEAC schools -- FAMU and Bethune-Cookman -- since the 2000-01 season.
Ishaq Pitt's floater put UMES up 68-62 with 2:03 left and Dominique Elliot finished Pitt's feed to push the lead to 70-63 with 41 seconds left.
The Hawks used their pressure defense to force 16 turnovers leading to 19 points, though both teams were slowed by fouls -- 62 total, with 68 free throws.
Jermaine Ruttley led FAMU with 20 points, but the Rattlers (0-20, 0-7) went 1 of 11 from 3-point range.
