UMES topples Norfolk State 82-64
NORFOLK, Va. -- Devin Martin scored 25 points and Maryland-Eastern Shore toppled Norfolk State 82-64 on Monday.
Norfolk State raced out to a 12-2 lead -- including a D'Shon Taylor 3-pointer -- after the first three minutes. UMES called timeout to recover and later scored the last five points of the first half to trail by just one, 37-36, at intermission.
UMES hit 9 of 11 shots during a 19-2 run midway through the second half, with six points apiece by Martin and Mike Myers, which lifted the Hawks to a 64-47 lead with 9:26 to go.
Meyers finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds for UMES (14-12, 7-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Devon Walker had 15 points and Dominique Elliot added 11.
RaShid Gaston led Norfolk State (16-10, 9-2) with 24 points and seven rebounds. Jeffrey Short added 17 points and four steals.
