Bell, Gray lead Delaware State past Hampton, 85-75
DOVER, Del. -- Tyshawn Bell scored 25, and Kendall Gray had 12 points and 13 rebounds to help Delaware State beat Hampton 85-75 on Monday night.
Amere May added 20 points -15 in the second half -- and eight rebounds, while Kendal Williams hit 4 of 6 from 3-point range and scored 18 for Delaware State (14-16, 8-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), which snapped a two-game skid.
Hampton (12-16, 8-7) shot 62.1 percent from the field in the first half -- compared to just 41.9 by the Hornets -- but went into the break tied at 39. Delaware State overcame its cold-shooting start by outrebounding Hampton 19-10, including 8-1 on the offensive glass, and hitting seven 3-pointers before halftime.
The Pirates, however, lost their touch in the second, shooting just 40 percent (10 of 25) while Delaware State made 16 of 27 (59.3 percent) second-half shots.
Dwight Meikle led Hampton with 21 points and eight rebounds.
