Delaware State rallies to edge Hampton 74-71
HAMPTON, Va. -- Amere May scored 30 points and grabbed four rebounds as Delaware State rallied late in the second half to edge Hampton 74-71 on Saturday night.
May finished shooting 10-of-21 from the field -- including 3-of-6 from distance -- and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Kendal Williams added 17 points and five rebounds for the Hornets (13-14, 7-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) and Kendall Gray chipped in nine. The team hit 44.6 percent from the field overall and 81 percent from the line.
Hampton led 36-27 at the break but Delaware State fought back in the second half to take a 70-68 lead with a minute to play and held on for the win.
Reginald Johnson led the Pirates (11-15, 7-6) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Quinton Chievous added 16 points and eight boards.
