Siena tops Quinnipiac 88-67, opens conference play
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Marquis Wright scored 17 points and Siena took control in the second half Friday night to open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with an 88-67 win over Quinnipiac.
Willem Brandwijk and Rob Poole added 12 points apiece and Lavon Long and Javion Ogunyemi had 11 each for the Saints (3-3, 1-0).
The Bobcats (3-3, 0-1) got 15 points from Zaid Hearst and 14 from Kasim Chandler.
Poole's three-point play two seconds before the half gave Siena a 40-38 lead. Then the Saints, with five different players scoring, opened the second half with a 10-2 run for a 50-40 lead. They pushed the lead to 65-44 at the 11:34 mark as Brandwijk knocked down a 3-pointer and flushed a dunk on consecutive possessions.
The Bobcats answered with a 14-3 run, started by Hearst's three-point play and capped by James Ford Jr.'s four-point play, to pull back within 10 with 8 minutes left but the threat ended there.
