Lewis, Marist hold off Fresno State 68-64
ESTERO, Fla. -- Chavaughn Lewis scored 28 points, Manny Thomas had 13, including five in the final minute, and Marist held off Fresno State 68-64 in the seventh-place game of the Gulf Coast Showcase on Wednesday.
The Red Fox (1-4) had a 33-22 lead at the half but the Bulldogs (1-5), who were down 20 less than 3 minutes into the second half, battled back to trail by four with a minute left. Thomas broke free for a dunk at 56 seconds. Then Marist made 6 of 8 free throws to hold off Fresno State.
Lewis made the first two, Phillip Lawrence, who scored 19 points, made one of two and Thomas was 3 of 4 in the final 15 seconds.
Marist ended up 17 of 22 from the foul line while Fresno State was 7 of 13.
Marvelle Harris led the Bulldogs with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists.
