Mississippi Valley State gets first win, 66-63
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Jordan Washington scored a career-high 20 points, including Mississippi Valley State's final six, to give the Delta Devils a 66-63 victory over North Carolina A&T on Saturday at the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic.
Mississippi Valley led 38-29 at halftime before the Aggies began to chip away at the lead. Steven Burrough made 1 of 2 free throws to get North Carolina A&T within a point with 7:12 remaining. The Delta Devils held the Aggies at bay and were leading 62-61 with 26 seconds left when Washington hit two free throws and another pair with 12 seconds remaining for the game's final points. The Aggies missed two 3-pointers in the final seconds.
The victory was the first for Mississippi Valley (1-6). DeAngelo Priar made a trio of 3-pointer in adding 14 points.
Bruce Beckford finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds for the Aggies (1-6). James Whitaker had 13 points and Burrough 11.
